I Wish I knew (How it Would Feel to Be Free) – Nina Simone Live at Montreux Jazz Fest 1976

Hope you’re having a wonderful day. I love this performance of “I Wish I knew (How It Would Feel to Be Free)” by Nina Simone. Originally written and recorded by Billy Taylor in 1963, the song was used as an anthem for the Civil Rights Movement. Simone’s 1967 cover recorded on her album Silk & Soul became very popular, garnering quite a bit of air time on the radio.

Take a minute or 6 to enjoy Simone’s captivating and endearing performance that, to this day, speaks volumes about this nation’s struggles with race and equality. A powerful and comforting reminder that what we are dealing with in America right now is nothing new, but that we are so fortunate to have people throughout history who have fought and struggled for equality their whole lives in order to get to where we are today. There is still a lot of work to be done, but perhaps all of us here can take a little inspiration from Nina’s performance and continue to affect the change we want to see in the world.
